Wesley Burt
Program Director
San Diego
Wesley is a mission-driven leader dedicated to developing innovative solutions to complex social challenges. With over 20 years of experience across the private, public, political, and nonprofit sectors, he has focused on empowering communities and organizations to drive meaningful, scalable change.
As the Founder and former Executive Director of Equation Collaborative, Wesley co-created +BOX, the organization’s flagship nutrition assistance program, which delivers fresh, healthy food to food-insecure children and families on a weekly basis. Since 2021, +BOX has provided more than 1.3 million pounds of nutritious food to San Diego communities most impacted by health inequities—helping to improve food security, fuel student success, and promote long-term health and well-being.
To expand +BOX’s reach and impact, Wesley recently led a strategic merger with Brighter Bites, a national nonprofit dedicated to building communities of health through fresh food. As the new Director of Brighter Bites San Diego, he will leverage the resources, expertise, and network of an organization that operates nutrition programs in 12 other cities nationwide, supporting nearly 400,000 families annually.
Before founding Equation Collaborative, Wesley was a founding executive at LearnPlatform, an education technology company that grew from a startup in the TechStars EdTech Accelerator into a $100 million business, ultimately acquired by Instructure in 2022. His earlier career included roles as an Education Pioneers Fellow within Chicago Public Schools, where he worked to improve programs for students with disabilities, and as an IBMer, advising state and local governments on big data and analytics solutions for informing public policy.
Wesley’s passion for policy and social impact emerged during his time as a White House intern, leading to early career experience on both legislative teams and political campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels. His career path has taken him to some of the nation’s most dynamic cities—including Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, Raleigh, and San Diego—where he has worked at the intersection of innovation and public good.
Wesley holds a BS from the University of Southern California and an MPPA from Northwestern University. He currently lives in Encinitas, CA, with his wife, Meghan, and their two children (ages 5 & 9). Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, following European soccer, fishing, and perfecting his barbecue skills.
