Katie Degen is a program manager for Brighter Bites in Houston. She received her undergraduate degree in nutrition, dietetics, and hospitality at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.

After graduation from college, Katie began working as the Nutrition Education Specialist at the Southeast Texas Food Bank. It was at this time that she fell in love with educating individuals and making nutrition education fun and decided to pursue her passion. Katie became a certified Community Health Worker and began working for a local hospital in Houston. As a Community Health Worker, Katie served as a liaison between patients and the healthcare system, and linked them with resources throughout the community.

In her free time, Katie enjoys trying new types of exercise, cooking with her husband, and watching movies. She is excited to be a part of an organization that provides children and their families with the education and tools they need to live a vibrant and healthy life.
