Alison Aguiar

Program Coordinator
New York City
Alison Aguiar is a program coordinator for Brighter Bites in New York City. She received her undergraduate degree in English from Bryn Mawr College in 2017. Raised in NYC, Alison first became interested in nutrition while volunteering at a community garden on Roosevelt Island. This experience led to her becoming the community garden coordinator in college.

During her time at Bryn Mawr, Alison took courses that challenged the notion of food as merely sustenance; it became clear that food is part of a dynamic relationship — between tradition and modernity, acculturation and assimilation, scarcity and abundance. These nuances inspired Alison to pursue a career in nutrition, focusing her efforts on building meaningful community relationships through healthy food. Alison has also spent time building communities in the fields of education and sustainability.

In her free time, Alison loves exploring international grocery stores for unique ingredients, gardening, and cooking. She dreams of one day opening up a cafe in Queens with its own backyard garden.
