We challenged kids at one of our partner schools to imagine a superhero made entirely from fruits and veggies—complete with bold powers, creative costumes, and lots of personality. The results are pretty amazing 💥✨⁠

A teacher shared that she had tried rambutans at a previous Brighter Bites distribution and loved them. She wished her students could try them too. With an extra case on hand, we made it happen.⁠

By the end of the day, students were surprised by how delicious they were—and excited to discover a fruit many had never seen before.⁠
⁠
This is what food access looks like: sparking curiosity, expanding palates, and turning “what is that?” into a new favorite. 🍎🥭⁠

This month at Brighter Bites schools in NYC, families got to try ugli fruit—a sweet citrus that’s a natural cross between a grapefruit, orange, and tangerine and packed with vitamin C.⁠

After ten meaningful years, Brighter Bites’ Austin program closed in December. This difficult decision follows the elimination of SNAP-Ed funding this summer, which resulted in a significant national funding loss and required us to scale back programming to ensure long-term sustainability.⁠
⁠
We are deeply grateful to the Austin families, schools, partners, volunteers, and staff who made this program so special. The memories, relationships, and moments of joy we shared will always be part of the Brighter Bites story.⁠

Thank you, Austin, for an incredible decade of impact.
