Sue Smith is a native Houstonian, proud Texan, and lapsed attorney. When her 47-year-old husband died while jogging at Memorial Park in 2001, Sue opted to change her life in dramatic ways, exiting the legal business, and focusing on health, education, and helping others. Several years later she remarried and together with her husband, Craig Brown, they have traveled the world, having visited more than 35 countries.
Sue currently serves on the Board of Directors of Bo’s Place, a Houston nonprofit that offers free, ongoing programs and services to children and families who have lost a loved one. She currently chairs the Succession Planning Committee and is a member of the Development Committee. She is a Past President of Bo’s Place and has chaired the Executive, Development, and Nominating Committees. Sue is also a member of the Development Board of UT Health and served as Chair of the UT Health School of Public Health Advisory Council. She served as Co-Chair of the inaugural Nourish Luncheon benefiting UTHealth School of Public Health. She is a current member of the Board of Trustees of KIPP Houston Public Schools and serves on the Executive Board Fundraising Committee. She is a Founding Member of the Houston Methodist Research Institute and currently serves on the Steering Committee of Houston Methodist’s Campaign for the Second Century. Sue is also a member of the Presidents Leadership Council at Houston Methodist. Sue also interviews students pursuing STEM majors who will attend Texas A&M University and are candidates for scholarships from her husband’s foundation, the Craig and Galen Brown Foundation. Sue and Craig have created a class of scholarships within the Brown Foundation known as Brown KIPP Scholars.
Sue received her JD from the University of Houston Law Center and her BA from The University of Texas.
