A big thank-you to the @heb School of Retail Management for an incredible day of service with Brighter Bites at Cloverleaf Elementary in Houston, Texas! More than 60 @heb employees came together to donate and pack over 3,500 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, including bananas, broccoli, melons, peaches, pineapples, plums, summer squash, and tomatoes.⁠

Working side by side with Brighter Bites staff, the volunteers packed 210 bags of produce filled with nutritious ingredients for local families into their signature H-E-B shopping bags. In addition to the produce distribution, the team went above and beyond by donating school supplies and lending their time and energy to campus improvement projects that will benefit Cloverleaf students throughout the year.⁠

This partnership is a shining example of how corporate volunteers can help create communities of health through fresh food, service, and care. Thank you, H-E-B, for your continued commitment to nourishing Texas families

During a recent teacher orientation, a 1st grade teacher shared how much she loves our program! Last year, she did a fun Produce Activity and introduced the kids to grapefruit. Some of the kids knew all about it, but others were totally blown away by how big it was, thinking it was an “orange.” 🍊😲⁠

The teacher thought it was adorable to see their reactions! She explained that it wasn’t actually an orange and gave them the chance to taste the grapefruit for themselves. 💛⁠

She also mentioned that Brighter Bites helped her stay healthy and accountable for the produce she received last school year—and she’s so excited to have the program back for a 2nd year! 🌟

🥑🌽 Happy National Guacamole Day!�We’re serving up a fresh, budget-friendly twist — Corn Guacamole — perfect with baked tortilla chips or on top of fish tacos! ⁠

Here’s how to make it:�⁠
-Scoop & mash 3 large ripe avocados in a bowl.�⁠
-Add:⁠
* 1 (15 oz) can corn (no salt), rinsed & drained⁠
* ½ cup chopped white onion⁠
* ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro⁠
* Juice of 1 lime⁠
* ½ tsp garlic powder⁠
* ½ tsp salt⁠
* ¼ tsp ground cumin�⁠
-Stir well, then fold in 4 oz crumbled queso fresco.⁠
